Located in northern Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, The Cloisters opened in May 1938 as a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. Since then, this dynamic museum, with an annual attendance of nearly a quarter million visitors, has been the venue for numerous tours, lectures, concerts of early music, and other programs that describe the culture of the Middle Ages. The gardens of The Cloisters include collections that are used to teach the horticulture of the period as well. "The Game of Kings: Ivory Chessmen from the Isle of Lewis," made possible by the Michel David-Weill Fund, is the first special exhibition held in 30 years at The Cloisters, and it marks the completion of a successful restoration and renovation project of the museum, which included new climate control, new lighting, and updated installations of The Cloisters Collection. Peter Barnet, Michel David-Weill Curator in Charge, will greet the group. Barbara D. Boehm, Curator, will present the exhibition to the group, after which the supper meeting will be held in St. Michel-de-Cuxa Cloister gallery. Space is limited to 2 from each museum. Reservations and dinner selection must be made by e-mail to amy@queensfarm.org by February 27. br> To email reservations or print a reservation form, click here. |
